Artist KAWS celebrates two new gallery shows

Brooklyn artist KAWS — who redesigned MTV’s iconic moonman statues for this year’s Video Music Awards — celebrated two new gallery shows on Saturday.

The artist launched a new exhibition of sculptures at Mary Boone Gallery in Chelsea, and another exhibit showing new paintings at Galerie Perrotin on the Upper East Side. At an after-party at the Carlyle, guests included Pharrell Williams in an old-school gray fedora with his new wife, Helen Lasichanh, pop diva Alicia Keys and her producer and artist hubby Swizz Beatz, businessman and art collector Jean Pigozzi, the Strokes’ Fabrizio Moretti, Glenn O’Brien, Nicole Miller, Ann and Annabelle Dexter-Jones, and artists Will Cotton, Richard Dupont and Max Snow.

Busy KAWS also has shows running at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas. Williams and Beatz have been Perrotin boosters since the Parisian gallery recently expanded to Madison Avenue.
