Sinead O’Connor tweets during apparent suicide attempt

Sinead O’Connor took to Twitter yesterday, saying “I’m really un-well” and asking fans for psychiatrist recommendations as she was contemplating suicide.

“I realise i will be in trouble 4 doing this but.. ireland is a VERY hard place to find help in,” she wrote at 6 a.m. “Does any1 know a psychiatrist in dublin or wicklow who could urgently see me today please? im really un-well… and in danger. the sindo article about them trying to lose barry his job and every1 being shit to him 4 marrying me has spun me off and im ill. and i desperately need to get back on meds today.”

O’Connor implied that she was considering taking her own life.

“Me dont wanna leave me kids,” she typed. “Or (bleep) up me work. im sorry worrying any1.. is just am sick.”

The message led to an outpouring of support, both in the form of recommendations and replies of general concern. At 3:30 p.m., O’Connor returned to the micro-blogging sight appearing to be in much better spirits.

“Wanna thank all SO much for such great help today,” she said. “Spoke to some great psych docs u all put me on to … i love u all so much for that and am feeling much better.”

The Sun reached out to O’Connor for more information on what had happened.

“I took an overdose,” O’Connor revealed. “I just had to make a cry for help.”

It is not the first time O’Connor has done so. In September, O’Connor similarly scared fans on Twitter when she began talking about suicide. She later explained herself on her blog.

“Nasty people say I’m looking for attention, talking about suicidal feelings. Yes. Maybe I am looking for attention. Because I’d like to stay alive,” she wrote. “I would never act on suicidal feelings OTHER THAN BY WRITING. I’m a person who needs love and tenderness. I’m not getting it. I’m asking for it.”

O’Connor’s behavior has become increasingly erratic since the summer, when she posted online that she was holding a contest to find a boyfriend. After one misfire, she met substance abuse counselor Barry Herridge. On Dec. 8, O’Connor and Herridge married in Las Vegas, only to call it quits 16 days later. Soon after, O’Connor gleefully announced that she was back together with her husband.

O’Connor implied in her tweets yesterday that an article printed in the Sunday Independent was what led to her latest episode. The article argued that Herridge’s job as a counselor for teenagers had been compromised by his marriage to O’Connor, who confessed that she had gone on a search for marijuana the night of her wedding.

O’Connor was quoted in the paper as leaving voicemails for the reporter that said, “‘DO not (bleep) with me or my husband.”
