While Gwyneth Paltrow or January Jones might have been the obvious choices to play Grace Kelly in an upcoming film, reports say that Nicole Kidman is in talks for the part.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Kidman is deep in negotiations to play Kelly, the Oscar winning actress known to be a muse to Alfred Hitchcock, in the movie “Grace of Monaco.” The film will be directed by Oliver Dahan, who helped Marion Cotillard earn her Academy Award for the Edith Piaf biopic “La Vie en rose.” According the industry publication, the $15 million production is already being compared to “The King’s Speech.”

Kelly famously married Monaco’s Prince Rainier III in 1956, retiring from acting and becoming the Princess of Monaco. The film will focus on a six month sliver of Kelly’s reign in 1962, when she toiled behind-the-scenes to save Monaco after her husband was given the command by Charles de Gaulle of France to reform the country’s tax laws.

While Kidman does not seem the closest physical likeness to Kelly working in Hollywood today, she has proved herself playing real-life characters. Kidman won an Oscar for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in “The Hours.”

While Kidman was largely absent from the Hollywood scene last year, she has several movies in the pipeline, including “The Paperboy” — Lee Daniels’ follow-up to”Precious” — and “The Railway Man” with Colin Firth.
