Despite his daughter being arrested for driving under the influence, Amanda Bynes’ father contends that the “What I Like About You” star “doesn’t drink.”
“She was not drunk,” Rick Bynes has told People of his daughter. “I was told that she blew a zero on the Breathalyzer. She didn’t have a single drink that night. My daughter doesn’t drink.”

“She is a good girl,” he continued. “She just chooses not to work, and because of that, people go after her.”
While Rick Bynes does agree that his daughter was taken in after hitting a police car at the intersection of Robertson and Santa Monica boulevards at about 3 a.m. Friday morning, he gives a different account of events. He claims that the officer was at fault for the accident, pulling his car in front of Bynes’.
“She was upset and very emotional,” he said.
Rick Bynes, however, may be hurting his daughter more than helping her with these statements. While most assumed that 26-year-old Bynes had been drinking while out at Greystone Manor Supperclub in Los Angeles before the incident, her father’s statement opens up the possibility that she was under the influence of another substance, potentially drugs. Bynes was held overnight following the incident and while the West Hollywood Sheriff’s department has not commented on her case, their website explains that “if the offense is alcohol or drug related, the suspect will stay at the sheriff’s station until he or she can safely care for himself or herself.”
Page Six revealed that, after being released from jail, Bynes headed straight to the Beverly Hills Hotel’s Polo Lounge where she met with her p.r. rep and one of LA’s top DUI lawyers.
Bynes has recently been quiet on the Hollywood scene, after announcing in 2010 that she was “retired” from acting at age 24. She briefly came out of retirement for a part in the movie “Easy A.”
The day after being arrested, Bynes cryptically tweeted, “If you got me I got you.”
