Nickelodeon uses smoking-related clothing on iCarly

Nickelodeon inadvertently styled a character on its tween sitcom “iCarly” on a T-shirt from Bambu, which makes rolling papers for cigarettes. Bambu Apparel’s Sarah Saiger said her 14-year-old niece spotted the T-shirt in a recent episode on character Spencer Shay, Carly’s eccentric older brother, played by Jerry Trainor. “She took a screen shot of it with her phone and sent it to me,” Saiger told us. “It was unbelievable to me that they didn’t do any due diligence. I always made sure not to put advertisements for my clothes near kids. I don’t want kids buying my shirts. My nieces and nephews are not allowed to wear the clothing. They can look at the artwork, but they do not wear the clothing.” A rep for Nickelodeon said, “The shirt was randomly selected from a national department store by a customer, and we had no idea what the design represented.”
