Robin Thicke and Ron Burgundy need money for music video

A music video with “Blurred Lines” singer Robin Thicke and “Anchorman 2” star Will Ferrell, a k a Ron Burgundy, would be Internet gold — that is, if someone can pony up $100,000 to make it happen.

The smooth-talking, mustached anchorman and the R&B crooner recorded a cover of Christopher Cross’ 1980 hit “Ride Like the Wind” for the movie’s soundtrack. Sources tell us both wanted to make a video to promote the song.

It appears the next opportunity Ferrell and Thicke may have to shoot one would be during Ferrell’s scheduled Dec. 19 appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” But it will cost a bundle to get Thicke to Los Angeles at the last minute to make it happen.

Ferrell has already appeared as the 1970s San Diego anchorman in a blitz of promotional spots for the movie, including spoofs with Daft Punk for the European Music Awards in Amsterdam, an ad campaign with automaker Dodge, and, as announced on Monday, he’ll be calling the Canadian Olympic curling trials on Sunday in Winnipeg for Canadian sports channel TSN.

“Everyone’s on board for a proper music video, but Will’s concerned about his schedule. He fears Ron Burgundy will be overexposed,” said one insider. “But Will would like Robin to join him on some of his TV appearances, such as ‘Conan’ and ‘Jimmy.’ ”

Last week, the two tried to coordinate meeting on “Conan” during Ferrell’s scheduled appearance, but sources tell us it would have cost $100,000 to get Thicke out of a previous engagement and to LA in time to do the show.

Now sources tell us Thicke’s record label, Interscope, and Ferrell’s people are trying to get them both on Kimmel together to perform “Ride.” Negotiations over who will foot the bill, including costs for travel, wardrobe and the all-important caterpillar mustache, are still being worked out.

“Anchorman 2” hits theaters Dec. 20. Reps for Thicke, Ferrell and “Anchorman 2,” which is being distributed by Paramount, didn’t get back to us.
