Madonna takes dig at Lady Gaga

Madonna made a dig at Lady Gaga this weekend, pointing out from the stage of her “M.D.N.A.” tour what many have said before — that Gaga’s “Born This Way” sounds a lot like Madonna’s “Express Yourself.”

As Madonna kicked off her highly-anticipated world tour in Israel this weekend, the Material Girl was filmed rehearsing her 1989 hit “Express Yourself.” Midway through the performance — a dress rehearsal for the show — Madonna began singing “Born This Way,” mashing up the Lady Gaga song with her own. The mash-up did not appear to be a tribute to Gaga, as Madonna has criticized her in the past for creating a song so similar to her classic.

“When I heard [‘Born This Way’] on the radio, I said that sounds very familiar. It feels reductive,” Madonna told 20/20 earlier this year. “I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. Sometimes I think it’s amusing and flattering and well done. It’s a statement about taking something that was in the zeitgeist, you know, 20 years ago and turning it inside out and reinterpreting it … There’s a lot of ways to look at it. I can’t really be annoyed by it because, obviously, I’ve influenced her.”

LADY GAGA CALLS OFF SHOWS IN INDONESIA

While Madonna kicks off her tour in the Middle East, Gaga is currently on a world tour too. Yesterday, the songstress was forced to cancel a sold-out date in Indonesia rather than tone-down her show amid outcry from Muslim critics.

“There is nothing Holy about hatred,” Gaga wrote on Twitter, explaining the decision to her fans. “We had to cancel the concert in Indonesia. I’m so very sorry to the fans & just as devastated as you if not more. You are everything to me.”
