LONDON — He may be one of the world’s biggest sports stars and also considered one of the hottest men on the planet but David Beckham is still just a mommy’s boy from east London.

The LA Galaxy midfielder flew into London on Wednesday and immediately found time to take his mother Sandra out for a very English lunch of pie and (potato) mash.

The heavily-tattooed English sporting icon posted a picture of the lunch date on Facebook soon after, showing him and his mom both smiling broadly while enjoying their food.

Beckham, who was wearing a black flat cap and gray T-shirt, posted a caption to the picture saying, “As I’m sure you would have expected, I had a pie and mash lunch today with my mum. There is nothing better.”

The picture had already been “liked” more than 53,000 times several hours later.

The 37-year-old also found time to visit his grandmother, posting another picture on Facebook with the caption, “Great to be back in London. Paid a surprise visit to see my gran.”

The photo shows a number of elderly ladies surrounding Beckham and, although it is not clear which lady in the picture is Beckham’s grandmother, all of them have beaming smiles.

Beckham, a father of four, grew up in Leytonstone in east London before achieving global stardom through stints at Manchester United, Real Madrid and AC Milan, before joining the Galaxy.
