House where Amy Winehouse lived — and died — is up for sale

LONDON — The house where Amy Winehouse lived — and died — is being sold by her dad Mitch for £2.7million ($4.2 million).

The home in trendy Camden in northwest London became a shrine after the singer died at age 27 last July, with fans leaving bottles of booze and packs of cigarettes outside along with piles of flowers and cards.

But the online real estate agency selling it simply describes it as a “substantial and impressive three double bedroom, three reception room semi-detached period villa with well-proportioned private gardens.”

It had been thought the house would be kept by the family and it was earmarked as the HQ for the Amy Winehouse Foundation, the charity set up by the “Back to Black” star’s parents to support causes close to her heart.

Soon after her death from alcohol poisoning, a source close to the family told The Sun, “They think it’s too precious to give up, hence the new HQ idea. They don’t want to rent it out. And if they sold they think it could attract the wrong kind of buyer as it was where Amy passed away.”

But now it has been decided it would be impractical to base the charity at the house in Camden Square.

A family spokesman said, “The Winehouses have decided to put the house on the market, with great regret. Amy loved that house but none of the family felt it appropriate that they should live in it. It was not practical to keep it empty while paying for its upkeep. It is a wonderful place and will be a happy family home for someone.”

Mitch, who bought the house with Amy for £1.8million in April 2010, confirmed it was on the market, but would not comment further.
