CARMEL, Calif. — Clint Eastwood’s teenage daughter has incurred the ire of fashion fans and the general public alike by destroying a Hermes Birkin bag, apparently in the name of art.
Francesca Eastwood, 19, and her photographer boyfriend Tyler Shields took a chainsaw to the $100,000 bag before setting it on fire — all for a photo shoot.
The response to the demise of the red crocodile Birkin was swift, and included death threats.
“Burning a $100K purse is not art. It’s self-indulgent, wasteful, lazy, showing off,” one person wrote on Twitter.
Another fumed, “could have used a cheap Kmart bag. Instead, waste money that could have fed hundreds. Spoiled and clueless. Try working 4 REAL.”
Sources close to Eastwood told entertainment website TMZ that she had never anticipated the level of anger she received. She reportedly told her friends that people simply did not understand art.
Eastwood is a model and stars in the reality TV show “Mrs. Eastwood and Company.”
She is the only child of actor/director Clint Eastwood’s relationship with actress Frances Fisher, who he met on the set of “Pink Cadillac” in 1989. The couple broke up in 1995.
