A white-carpeted, man-made pier created for Audemars Piguet’s Miami party swayed as beautiful people gyrated to a DJ Friday night. Was there a boat standing by to save any guests who went into the drink? “No,” joked one of the evening’s hosts, Xavier Nolot. “The alligators will eat them.” Thrown in conjunction with Paris-based Galerie Perrotin to unveil an artwork called “Curiosity,” by art duo Kolkoz, the party took place away from the usual South Beach haunts, in the shadow of an artily decaying and abandoned 6,500-seat powerboat racing arena, Miami Marine Stadium. Covered in graffiti and closed to the public since a devastating 1992 hurricane, the site will be redeveloped by the city, which worked with organizers to pull off the ambitious bash. At the end of the pier, Kolkoz’s lighted installation loomed — a giant blow-up, snow-covered chalet, complete with faux fireplace inside. Audemars execs, including François-Henry Bennahmias, surveyed the scene, and Nolot joked about their plans for future events, “Maybe we’ve set the bar too high?”
