It’s a case of the top p.r. exec who’s offensively un-PC. Justine Sacco — senior director of corporate communications for Barry Diller’s IAC — may be cutting her holiday vacation short after outrageously tweeting Friday before a trip, “Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!”
The bizarre post sparked an online uproar, and reps for the company — which owns the Daily Beast, ask.com, College Humor, match.com, OKCupid and Vimeo — issued a statement saying: “This is an outrageous, offensive comment that does not reflect the views and values of IAC. Unfortunately, the employee in question is unreachable on an international flight, but this is a very serious matter and we are taking appropriate action.”
Sacco seems to have a history of questionable tweets, including doozies like, “I can’t be fired for things I say while intoxicated right?” (She may find otherwise when she lands?)
Other messages to her 1,380 followers: “Now back to the margaritas” and “I had a sex dream about an autistic kid last night. #fml.”
Sacco apparently thought better of her joke by late Friday. The tweet was taken down by 11:50 p.m.
