Jacques Torres sold more sweet treats during Valentine’s Day last year after he spiced up the message written on his oversize chocolate lollipops. When he noticed that the candies, which included a demure “Love” message on one side, weren’t selling, he wrote “spank me” on the other and put them back on display. “Then they flew off the shelves,” he told the audience at a the 92nd Street Y forum the other night. When co-panelist Tom Colicchio asked him what he’d write on the lollipops this year, Torres replied slyly, “spank me, baby.”
