Branson hits the big screen

Richard Branson may have cracked a way to beat the boredom of waiting for a movie to start in cinemas. Spies say the Virgin mogul will unveil a movie-theater video-game app this weekend in two demonstration sessions for studio and advertising executives. The demos will show off a game where “up to 50 audience members can play a multiplayer game at once,” a source said. Players would download an app on their phones to compete. We hear the demos will take place today in Los Angeles and tomorrow in New York. The Sunday demo will bring in 18 VIPs, a source says, including execs from Coke and Sony. We’re told that concession-stand workers were told not to prepare hot dogs, or any other food that would smell, while the suits enjoy a catered breakfast. Branson launched Virgin Gaming in 2010 to focus on “tournament” games, in which players around the world can participate competitively to win prizes. A US rep for Branson denied the events were going down, saying via e-mail, “not sure what you are talking about.”
