‘Fela!’ encourages audience to drink up during show

It’s time to party on Broadway. Several theaters have begun encouraging patrons to imbibe cocktails in their seats throughout the show. The Playbill handed out at “Fela!” includes an insert announcing that bars on two levels are open through the beginning of Act II. The specialty concoctions mix three kinds of liquor (pow!), and the cup comes equipped with a lid and a straw. Speaking of “Fela!,” Patti LaBelle is playing the mother of the Nigerian musician until Jan. 3. A crowd gathers at the West 49th Street stage door each night as the immortal diva toddles to her Escalade.
