“Keith Richards killed my flower!” The rock legend’s smoking habit apparently caused the death of a small orchid in the office of New York Public Library Cullman Center deputy director Marie d’Origny. While waiting to appear onstage for a talk with Rolling Stone contributing editor Anthony DeCurtis in October, Richards lit a cigarette in d’Origny’s office and used the clay saucer underneath the pot as a makeshift ashtray. The smoke and the chill from a window opened to diffuse it wilted the orchid within days, according to a library blog. Richards left a more positive mark by secretly signing his “ashtray.”
