Anchors’ final salute to King

The King is going out in style. For his final show on Thursday, Larry King will be saluted by top news anchors Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Brian Williams and Barbara Walters. “In reflections on his career, broadcast kings will discuss their appearances on his show, paying homage and respect to Larry,” our source said. King said months back that he hoped Mario Cuomo, his first guest in 1985, would be his final one. But Eliot Spitzer, CNN’s “Parker Spitzer” co-host, rubbed Cuomo the wrong way by attacking his son, Gov.-elect Andrew — making him so angry at CNN he wouldn’t even return King’s calls, according to a recent interview King gave. “Nothing has been finalized,” a CNN rep said of the finale. “But it will be a group of close friends and former guests.” King, 77, leaves miffed that his contract was extended only a year. His successor, Piers Morgan, takes over next month. Life after CNN could be full of laughs for Larry, who said he plans to go into stand-up comedy.
