Justin Bieber: ‘I’m young and I make mistakes’

Justin Bieber insists he’s not the latest celebrity teen gone wild. After a no-good, very-bad week in London where he fainted on stage and threatened a photographer, some think the pop star is on the verge of a meltdown.

“I’m young and I make mistakes. That’s part of growing up,” the 19-year-old said to Us Weekly about his antics. “I mess up sometimes. It’s part of growing up.”

“The biggest misconception about me is that I’m a bad person,” Bieber confessed. “I get upset about that. I have a big heart. I want to be a good role model, but some people want me to fail.”

Bieber made headlines this week after his neighbor accused him of battery and dangerously speeding through his Calabasas neighborhood.

“I know who I am and I’m not gonna let negativity towards me bring me down. I’m a positive person and I plan on staying that way,” Bieber continued in the interview. “This business can break you down, but I have a strong team around me, and my family and all the fans. The love overcomes the negativity. I’m not perfect but I’m growing and trying to be better every day. That’s part of life.”

Bieber also explained some of his more bizarre behavior while touring in London, such as being photographed shirtless heading into his hotel.

“I still had part of my tour wardrobe on and was rushing into my hotel,” Bieber explained.

Bieber was hospitalized after he passed out on stage in London but the “Baby” crooner assured, “I passed out from the flu. The worst thing to me is disappointing my fans — we only had five songs left — so they gave me oxygen, and I decided to finish the show and then go to the hospital. The show must go on.”

That same week, he was walking the London streets in a gas mask and explained to Us Weekly that it was a “joke with my friends.”

He added, “I’m young and I want to have fun. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that.”

As for what’s next, the star doesn’t have any solid plans for now. “I’m thinking about my next album, next tour. Or maybe I’ll take a break. I’m figuring it out. Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do at 19?”
