The stage at the Kodak Theater has been set for Sunday’s Oscars — and the starlets might have to tone down their super-tight dresses and skyscraper heels. Oscar scriptwriter Bruce Vilanch tells us, “The stage will be raised higher, which means more steps to accept your awards. So the ladies may have to be careful with their long trains, tight dresses and heels. Obviously, we do not want any slip-ups.” The veteran writer and comic said he’s working closely with hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.

Of the rivalry between “Avatar” and “The Hurt Locker,” Vilanch joked, “We’re going to seat Kathryn Bigelow on James Cameron‘s lap.” One person who will not be at the ceremony is “Hurt Locker” co-producer Nicolas Chartier. He’s been banned because of his e-mail trashing “Avatar” as a “$500 million film.” Chartier will be given his Oscar later if “Hurt Locker” wins Best Picture.
