Shia LaBeouf may have retired from the public life, but that doesn’t mean he intends on disappearing quietly.

The controversy-prone 27-year-old took to Twitter to express his outrage over a joke that Jim Carrey made at his expense during Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards.

“Dying is easy. Comedy is hard… I believe it was Shia LaBeouf who said that,” the 51-year-old “Dumb and Dumber To” star said before introducing Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy nominee (and eventual winner) “American Hustle.”

Carrey’s comment poked fun at LaBeouf’s recent mini-plagiarism scandal, in which the actor-turned-director was called out for liberally borrowing from Daniel Clowes’ graphic novella “Justin M. Damiano” for his short film “HowardCantour.com.” To make matters worse, LaBeouf appeared to plagiarize previous public apologies in his mea culpa to Clowes.

Not being one to let anything go quietly, LaBeouf hopped on Twitter, his current creative medium of choice, to go to battle with the comedian.

The former “Transformers” star then posted a video from the Jane Carrey Band, a musical group fronted by Carrey’s 26-year-old daughter Jane — who also happens to be the only person that La Beouf currently follows on Twitter.

Shortly afterwards, LaBeouf threw a more personal barb at Carrey in a response to a tweet by E! News, calling the older actor’s parenting skills into question.

But then, just as quickly as things had gotten out of hand, LaBeouf pulled an about face and apologized to Carrey.

Rather than leave things at that, LaBeouf closed out this third day as a non-celebrity by reminding everyone, again, that he is just a normal unassuming citizen of the world.
