Almost a month after the arrival of his first child, Prince William is inching back into the spotlight to talk fatherhood, sleepless nights and diapers.

The new royal dad, second in line to the British throne, sat down with CNN’s Max Foster, for the first time since the birth on July 22.

He says life has changed for him and the Duchess of Cambridge since becoming parents.

“I think the last few weeks for me have been just a very different emotional experience,” the royal said sitting in his garden at Kensington Palace. “Something I never thought I would feel myself. And I find, again it’s only been a short period, but a lot of things affect me differently now.”

Young Prince George’s introduction to the world on the steps of Saint Mary’s Hospital was a moment of pride for the new parents, the prince says.

“I think I was on such a high anyway, and so was Catherine about George that really we were happy to show him off to whoever wanted to see him,” he told Foster.

The couple’s independence continues to be a priority for the prince— and includes placing his son’s car seat in the back seat and driving his family away from the hospital like any other parent.

“I am as independent as I want to be,” he said. “And same as Catherine and Harry. We’ve all grown up differently to other generations.”

For the proud father, Prince George is a “a little bit of a rascal” and isn’t holding back on keeping his royal parents up all night.

“He’s doing very well at the moment,” said William. “He does like to keep having his [diaper] changed.”
