In the old days, only white, Top Gun military-types were allowed to become astronauts. Today, African-American porn star Coco Brown is planning to orbit Earth.
Brown, one of the most downloaded adult entertainers ever, will soon go into training for a March 2015 flight with Space Expedition Corp. for which she is paying $100,000.
“It’s just the pilot and me. I’m the co-pilot,” Brown told me from her home in Berlin. “We take off from Curaçao and land an hour and a half later.”
The Ohio native was discovered as a showgirl in Las Vegas, and performed in 40 X-rated films as Honey Love, but she quit the business 10 years ago and moved with her future ex-husband to Germany, where she launched a music career. Her legacy lives on thanks to Internet immortality.
“People to this day think I’m still doing movies,” she said. Asked to explain her enduring popularity, Brown said, “I still look like I did in my films, thank you, and maybe because I’m the only chocolate girl in porn in Germany.”
Brown — who will be in New York Jan. 14 for a “launch” dinner party at Philip Marie in the Village and an after-party at Cheetahs in Times Square — said the space flight came “out of the blue” after she was brought to a lunch.
“I saw the movie ‘Space Camp’ when I was a kid,” she said. “I always wanted to get closer to the stars — or be a star.”
