Before Rooney Mara signed on to play Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” she was a day player on the iconic New York TV show “Law & Order: SVU.”
Mara got one of her first acting gigs on “SVU” in 2006, starring in a single episode of the police procedural called “Fat.” But she did not enjoy the experience.

“It was so awful. So stupid,” Mara says in the January issue of Allure magazine. “Me and my boyfriend — although I [didn’t] look old enough to have a boyfriend — went and beat up these fat people, and at the end of the show you find out that I used to be obese and I hate fat people. It’s ridiculous. Who would ever do that? Who would beat someone up because they’re fat?”
Mara also further dissed the series, saying, “People are obsessed with that show. I don’t get it.”
“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” has its New York premiere tonight, and opens in theaters Dec. 21.
