Rosie O’Donnell heading to Broadway: report

Rosie O’Donnell may be Broadway-bound in the wake of her dismissal from Oprah’s OWN Network. O’Donnell is in talks to play Miss Hannigan in an upcoming revival of “Annie,” reports say.

According to reports, O’Donnell is the favorite to play the booze-hound orphanage headmaster in the classic musical.

“Ro loves Broadway and is super excited about playing the part,” a source tells The Huffington Post. “The paperwork hasn’t been signed yet but the negotiations are well under way. This is a great role that she will be able to sink her teeth into and will get her back to acting and performing live, which has always been her first love.”

This would not be O’Donnell’s first appearance on the Great White Way. The funny woman has hosted the Tony Awards twice, in addition to parts in “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Grease,” and “Seussical.”

Shortly after the announcement that her OWN talk show was being cancelled, O’Donnell hinted that the stage might be her next move.

“Thats show biz,” Rosie tweeted. “I am happy to have had the chance and now to be back home in ny —— maybe broadway.”

Oprah Winfrey pulled the plug on O’Donnell’s show last week due to low ratings. According to Radar Online, Winfrey is currently courting Maria Shriver for a series of specials in the fall.
