THE high-society divorce between Tinsley and Topper Mortimer has left the soon-to-be ex-husband heartbroken.

According to New York magazine, “Topper is tormented . . . He’s become a full-time smoker. He’s lost weight. He wakes up at precisely 3:25 every morning and plays over and over the reality show his life became.”

It’s no wonder he’s a mess. Last month, Page Six reported that amid problems in their marriage, Tinsley had gone off to London and fallen for a German prince named CasimirCassi Wittgenstein-Sayn, who once worked for hedge-fund manager Arki Busson.

Handbag-designer Tinsley and Topper met at Lawrenceville prep school in New Jersey and were married in Richmond, Va., in 2002 after dating for years. Soon, they were the most talked-about society couple on the Upper East Side. But talk eventually led to whispers that Tinsley’s obsession with posing in party pictures was wearing on Topper, who expressed his distaste for the limelight.

But now Tinsley has someone she can flit around with. Almost immediately after going public with the divorce, the fashionista, famous for her curly blond locks and cutesy mispronunciation of words like “anonymous,” began hitting the London party circuit with her new beau. “We’re not hiding,” she told New York. “I have filed for divorce. I am allowed to date other people.”

In fact, the split seems to be weighing most heavily on Tinsley’s family. “I am crushed by what has happened,” Tinsley’s mother, Dale Mercer, told New York. “I believe that Tinsley is confused.”

But for once, the designer doesn’t seem confused. “When you’re with someone for 17 years . . . you just kind of want to get away a little bit and really try to relax and just have a nice time,” she said.

Topper would only tell New York, “I love my wife.”
