LeAnn Rimes exits rehab: ‘I’m starting over’

LeAnn Rimes surprised many when she voluntarily checked herself into rehab for emotional issues in August, but after her month-long stint, the singer is happy to start fresh.

“I feel like I am starting over even though I’ve had all these years behind me. How many people get to (start) over again in this day and age?” Rimes told Katie Couric in an interview airing later this week.

“People look at you and go ‘why are you struggling?’ …No one can quite understand why you hurt so badly,” she said.

The “Blue” crooner spoke to People about her decision to seek treatment for stress and anxiety last month. “This is just a time for me to emotionally check out for a second and take care of myself and come back in 30 days as the best 30-year-old woman I can be,” she said. “All the things in my life will be there when I get out, but you know what? I’m hoping they’re not going to affect me as much. I’ll have the tools to know how to deal with them.”

Rimes’ personal life has been the subject of tabloid fodder before. She raised eyebrows when she wed actor Eddie Cibrian, who she met when they were both married to other people.

According to new reports, Cibrian’s ex-wife, Brandi Glanville, isn’t beaming about her relationship with the stepmother of her and Cibrian’s two sons.

“Right now it’s not amazing,” she told OK! of her relationship to Rimes at the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” premiere. “I’m just saying…and I’ll leave it at that.”

Rimes’ interview will air on “Katie” on Thursday and on a special edition of “20/20” called “All Access Nashville” on Friday.
