Justin Bieber on Selena Gomez split: ‘I’m not in the happiest place’

Newly single Justin Bieber isn’t having the easiest time following his split with Selena Gomez, his girlfriend of two years.

The pop star opened up to Billboard recently about single life. When asked if he’s “pretty heartbroken,” Bieber admitted, “I’m not in the happiest place that I’ve ever been. I’m trying to get through what I’m going through. Like I said, I have my really close friends to cheer me up and keep me going.”

Bieber said he tries to keep himself busy to get his mind off the breakup: “I’m 18. I have a great team around me. I have great friends. We have a blast. They keep me occupied and keep my mind off negative things.”

He added that even at his young age, breaking up is hard to do. “It’s funny when people are like ‘You’re 18. What have you really gone through?’ I’m thinking, ‘What do you mean? When you were 18, you don’t think you went through that stuff?’” he said. “When you are 18, you’re going through that transition. You have a high school girlfriend, you might not. Going to college. Figuring yourself out, leaving home.”

Bieber’s song “Nothing Like Us” (off his new album “Believe Acoustic” out tomorrow) is said to be about his on-and-off relationship with Gomez.

“It tells the whole story about how he broke up with her, she begged him to take her back, and then he decided he was done for good,” a source told Us Weekly of the track. “This is his answer to Selena.”

In the second verse he sings: “Gave you everything / Everything I had to give / Girl, why would you push me away / Lost in confusion / Like an illusion / You know I’m used to making your day / That’s in the past now / We didn’t last now / Guess that this is meant to be / Tell me was it worth it / We were so perfect / Baby, I just want you to see.”

The chorus: “There’s nothing like us / There’s nothing like you and me together through the storm.”

Us Weekly reports that the pair have allegedly broken up “for good” this time after a “huge fight” while on vacation to Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, in late December.
