American Ballet Theater board turmoil

There’s a spat on point among board members at the American Ballet Theatre — which counts David Koch, Caroline Kennedy, Hamish Bowles and Blaine Trump as supporters. Board member Rod Brayman outlined his reasons in an open letter of resignation obtained by Page Six. Brayman, the CEO of Brooklyn’s Phoenix Beverages, objects to recent proposed bylaw changes and moves by the board including Rachel Moore’s title change from ABT executive director to CEO. “I believe that a title of CEO conveys a perceived status and authority that does not reflect the actual responsibilities and duties associated with this position . . .” he writes. But ABT rebutted Brayman’s points, stating to us that Moore’s job doesn’t include artistic oversight and that her CEO title was voted on unanimously at a board meeting which Brayman didn’t attend. They added there have been annual performance reviews of her work since 2008. And ABT said it’s currently reviewing the bylaws: “Every board member is required to be on a committee and continue to be welcomed to attend other committee meetings by request,” their rep said.
