Beast of the Viennese Opera ball

Diplomats, debutantes and a horse named Bob were guests of honor Friday at the 58th Viennese Opera Ball. The steed led a march through the marbled third-floor lobby of the Waldorf-Astoria and into its grand ballroom. (Bob arrived via freight elevator.) Later in the evening, three Met singers performed a “custom piece” with ballet dancers. Guests in white tie-and-tails included “Dancing With the Stars” hoofers Tony Dovolani and brothers Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy, who waltzed alongside Austrian diplomats Hans Peter Manz, Martin Sajdik and Thomas Mayr-Harting. The horse came courtesy of William Berloni’s Connecticut farm, which raises stage animals for theater and film.
