‘SNL’ sex tourism skit offends Thais

A “Saturday Night Live” sketch about creepy guys learning Thai through Rosetta Stone to embark on sex-tourism trips doesn’t have Thailand’s government laughing. Thai officials have demanded YouTube take down the sketch parodying ads for the language-learning software, in which Bill Hader, Bobby Moynihan and Taran Killam play sleazeballs learning Thai phrases like, “How much,” “Is that for the whole night,” “Oh my God, what have I done?” and “Pingpong ball!” Killam then packs a bag with “extra-small” condoms and Rosetta Stone CDs. The skit ends with, “Soon you, too, will be able to say [in Thai], ‘I need to speak with the American Embassy.’ ” Thai Culture Minister Sonthaya Khunploem slammed the skit and said he’s working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to have the clip removed from YouTube. “The government will also inform the US Embassy that the commercial spoof is tarnishing Thailand’s image, and will ask the embassy to explain the situation to the producer of ‘Saturday Night Live,’ ” he said. An “SNL” rep had no comment.
