Private wings for Diane Sawyer

The worker bees at ABC News, who are facing budgetary belt-tightening, are said to be dismayed at the high-flying ways of new “World News Tonight” anchor Diane Sawyer, who flew back to New York from the State of the Union Address on a private jet. ABC News spokesman Jeff Schneider told Page Six she shared the plane with George Stephanopoulos and five producers. “Diane was in DC on Monday to interview the president and flew commercial each way,” he said. “For the State of the Union [on Wednesday], Diane and George each flew the shuttle to DC. Because there were no commercial flights available after the speech, ABC executives made the decision to spend $7,000 to charter Diane, George and five producers back to New York so they could be in position on Thursday. Considering the snowstorm Thursday morning, it was absolutely the right call.”
