Memo to Bill Lynch: You really shouldn’t give Gov. Paterson sensitive advice from your cellphone. On a crowded train. On speakerphone. The gov’s key political adviser was overheard talking to his boss aboard the 9 a.m. Acela to DC Sunday morning. After talking strategy– and making a few disparaging remarks about when Attorney General Andrew Cuomo‘s “daddy” ran the state — Lynch flagged the day’s most important news. “Have you seen The Post yet?” he asked, and told Paterson to read our exposé on how Queens Rep. Gregory Meeks and state Senate president Malcolm Smith had steered money to a dodgy charity. With Paterson’s replies being broadcast to everyone in the car, Lynch said, “Can you call me back, governor? My phone is stuck on speakerphone.” Once the snafu was fixed, Lynch said, “You have to give The Post credit,” and then discussed the impact on the Aqueduct contract being awarded to Queens kingmaker Floyd Flake. It was agreed they needed to reach Flake, but Lynch didn’t have his number, so he called around trying to get it. He failed and then nodded off. Lynch acknowledges the chat with Paterson but claims, “I did not talk to the governor about the Aqueduct contract; I was talking to the person I was sitting with. I did not say anything disparaging about Andrew Cuomo . . . It was a personal and private conversation. I have a longstanding relationship with the governor, so we had a discussion, as we often do.”
