Bloomberg buys his socks at Filene’s Basement

Mayor Bloomberg is worth $20-plus billion, but admits he’s hardly a fashion leader — and when it comes to socks, he’s more at ease with penny-pinching than designer duds.

Bloomberg, who recently confessed to owning just two pairs of shoes, admitted at a fashion event Wednesday that he gets his socks from bargain-hunters’ mecca Filene’s Basement.

He likes to keep it simple, Bloomberg said, while presenting leadership awards to fashion icons Diane von Furstenberg, Anna Wintour and Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren, at the NYC & Company Foundation fund-raiser at the Plaza. The mayor revealed, “I buy my suits at Martin Greenfield, my shirts from Paul Stuart and my socks at Filene’s!”

“I’m not a fashionista,” he noted. “But I support the intellectual capital it brings to the city.” And for anyone who needs to know, a City Hall source tells us Bloomy buys his underpants at Bloomingdale’s.

But he draws the line when it comes to makeup. When cosmetics queen Bobbi Brown lobbied him to try her skin-care products, the mayor laughed, pretended to apply makeup and replied, “No, no, no.”

Bloomberg added, “I don’t get to the movies, I don’t watch TV. I don’t have the time. I’ve never seen ‘Saturday Night Live’ in all of these years . . . Maybe I’ll try her cosmetics.”

Accepting his award, Lundgren recalled a moment with Wintour, an avid tennis fan, from last year’s Fashion’s Night Out at Macy’s in Queens. He related: “Anna said, ‘I have been to Queens before, I have been to the tennis matches.’ I said, ‘No, no, no, this is Queens, this is Queens Boulevard.’ ”

Guests included Rosario Dawson, Tommy Hilfiger, Leelee Sobieski, Stacey Bendet, Donna Karan, Vera Wang, Tory Burch and William Lauder.
