Nearly a month after her engagement to “Hunger Games” actor Liam Hemsworth ended, Miley Cyrus is opening up about the split.

The 20-year-old pop star, whose latest album, “Bangerz,” came out on Tuesday, was interviewed by Ellen Degeneres on the October 11 episode of her daytime talk show, “The Ellen Degeneres Show,” reports E! News.

“I think people spend more time actually thinking about it than I really do. I just believe when a chapter is done you have to close it and start that new one. That’s kind of where I am right now,” the singer said.

Although the last couple months have seen Cyrus become a ubiquitous tabloid presence, the interview is the first time she has talked publicly about the breakup. Cyrus and Hemsworth, 23, met on the set “The Last Song” in 2009, and spent the next four years in a frequently tumultuous relationship. Representatives for the two confirmed that they were no longer together on September 16.

“I’ve been kind of impressed with people and how much they’ve actually shown more respect,” Cyrus said about coverage of the former couple. “I don’t really look up anything, so maybe they haven’t been showing respect, but from what I have seen, I felt like people have really focused on my music right now when I’ve needed them and have actually been really good about that.

Besides enjoying the attention on her music, the “We Can’t Stop” singer said the breakup has also given her a chance to focus on herself.

“I keep saying I’m the happiest I’ve ever been and that’s not even a dig,” Cyrus said. “That’s just me, because I really am genuinely happy finally with myself, which I think sometimes it takes you separating yourself from someone else to really be happy with who you are. I’ve never been able to just be alone, and I’m obsessed with being alone and like hearing my thoughts.”
