Single Scarlett’s fine fourth

Newly single Scarlett Johansson celebrated Independence Day weekend in East Hampton with her rocker friend Pete Yorn at an intimate party at the home of top diplomat Clifford Sobel.

Johansson was among the guests at former Ambassador to Brazil Sobel’s sprawling Meadow Lane house on Sunday. The bash also drew Cameron Diaz and Alex Rodriguez, who arrived late after the Yankees’ loss to the Mets, the Miami Heat’s Chris Bosh and his fiancée, Adrienne Williams.

Yorn, who recorded an album with Johansson a few years ago, performed three songs at the party thrown by Sobel’s son, Scott, and wife, Lori, for 200 guests. Also there were Pete’s brothers Kevin Yorn, a top entertainment lawyer who represents Johansson, and Rick Yorn.

Meanwhile, Johansson’s ex Sean Penn, with whom she split a month ago, was spotted hand-in-hand in Los Angeles with an attractive mystery brunette heading back from a holiday weekend party in California.

Over at Revlon billionaire Ronald Perelman‘s famous East Hampton estate The Creeks on Sunday, there were lots of tears at a Cinema Society screening of “The Help,” based on Kathryn Stockett‘s best seller, which chronicles the lives of black maids in 1960s Mississippi.

“Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo was so moved by the film, “she came out of the screening in tears, and hid in the bushes crying, staying there until she could collect herself,” a source told us.

Even Howard Stern was moved. Wife Beth Ostrosky Stern told guests, “Howard did actually cry.” The movie was introduced by Katie Couric, who told us, “I am a huge fan of the book and the performances in the film are just as moving.” Guests included Martha Stewart, Donna Karan, Gayle King, Russell Simmons, Kyle MacLachlan and Desiree Gruber, and Tamara Mellon.
