Denise Richards on adopting her third child

When Denise Richards announced in late June that she had adopted a baby girl, some questioned her decision to add to her brood. But Richards says that she had no hesitations about whether to adopt as a single mom.

“I had always wanted more children,” she wrote in a blog post on iVillage today. “I needed to make a decision: Do I wait for the right partner or move ahead with my life and do it on my own? I decided to do it on my own.”

Richards explains that the adoption process took two years and often left her feeling defeated. “But I always had faith that the right baby would find us,” she wrote. “I’ve always felt that children choose their parents, and Eloise found me a different way.”

Richards said that her two biological daughters with Charlie Sheen, Lola and Sami, are excited to have a younger sister. They even picked out their newest sibling’s name. (We presume the girls are fans of Kay Thompson’s “Eloise” children’s books about a 6-year-old living at the The Plaza hotel.)

The girls’ reading list also apparently has some heavier titles. Earlier this year, Richards spoke on “The View” about how she explains Sheen’s assorted issues to her daughters, and revealed that she’d given them books intended to explain addiction to kids. “I’ve had to have a couple conversations with them at this point,” she said. “It’s a very difficult situation … I do the best I can and it’s not easy.”
