Savannah towering over Matt, asked to wear lower heels

NBC’s “Today” hoped Savannah Guthrie would tower over the competition when it installed her next to Matt Lauer. But network brass aren’t happy she’s towering over Matt. “Guthrie’s height has become an issue,” says a source who claims NBC’s ordered sky-high Savannah to “wear lower heels” and “lower her anchor chair” to compensate. Guthrie revealed in April she’s “5-foot-10,” but, “Once I put those high heels on, I’m getting over 6 feet tall,” adding in a “Today” blog post, “I always go barefoot [at the news desk] because I was told one of the first times I filled in that I’m too tall for the set.” But yesterday Guthrie told us of NBC’s alleged footwear request, “Sorry, folks, but that tale is as tall as my heels.” A show rep added: “It’s not exactly a state secret that Savannah’s taller than her co-hosts in heels, but NBC doesn’t dictate the height of her heels or her chair. Savannah owns heels of all heights and likes to mix up her footwear, and she adjusts her seat as she sees fit.”
