Kirstie Alley defends Tom Cruise and Scientology

Kirstie Alley, Scientology member and friend of Tom Cruise, has come forward to defend Cruise against Vanity Fair’s recent claims that the church devised a secret process to audition wives for the actor in 2004.

“I think whenever you have articles written that are third and fourth parties’ opinions – it’s like the game Gossip and you don’t get the truth – I think that a magazine of that caliber should have interviewed him, and then they would get the truth,” Alley told “Entertainment Tonight.” (Vanity Fair’s Maureen Orth was denied interview requests with Cruise for the story.)

The longtime Scientologist told “ET”: “I think that probably all religions sound bizarre to the people who are not the practitioners of them. … To me it’s so normal, and probably 90% of the crazy stuff I hear isn’t true.”

The controversial religion has been cast in an unflattering light after Cruise’s bombshell divorce with actress Katie Holmes on June 29.
