Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel are calling it quits after ten years of marriage.
“Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have jointly decided to separate at this time,” representatives for the couple told People magazine on Wednesday night. “Their primary focus and concern is for their son. We ask that you respect their privacy during this time.”
The couple, both of whom are 42, had been together since meeting on the set of the first Broadway production of “Rent” in 1995. Menzel and Diggs reprised their roles in the 2005 big screen adaptation, as bisexual performance artist, Maureen Johnson, and her landlord, Benjamin Collins.
The couple married on Jan. 11, 2003, and had a son, Walker Nathaniel Diggs, in 2009.
While the couple was married for more than a decade, they faced challenges, especially with work sometimes keeping them on opposite coasts from one another.
“We work at it,” Menzel told People in April. “I’m not going to glamorize it or glorify it — we go through tough times like everybody else, but we love each other very much. We try not to be away from each other for more than two weeks at a time and we try to find new ways to communicate.”
