Artist LeRoy Neiman — a fixture at major sporting events, whose work has appeared in every issue of Playboy since 1953 — is recovering at New York Presbyterian Hospital after having his right leg amputated. We hear the artist, 89, is “in good spirits and talking on the phone” after undergoing the surgery, the result of a vascular problem. “All attempts to prevent it, including a stent, failed,” says a source. A rep for Neiman told us: “LeRoy said, ‘I’m on a brief vacation concentrating on my book of memoirs and continuing on with my painting and drawing.’ “
