Russell Simmons lectured his GlobalGrind.com staff about journalistic ethics after he flew into a Twitter rage over a posting on his urban-news Web site. “The way 2 Pac and Biggie [Notorious B.I.G.] died was from irresponsible journalism. And we are aware of that,” he told Page Six, referring to coverage of the East/West coast rap war in the ’90s. Simmons was infuriated when blogger SandraSays wrote on the site about Rihanna checking into the Beverly Hilton without her boyfriend, Matt Kemp, with the headline “Rihanna walks OUT on Matt Kemp.” Simmons Tweeted: “Leave globalgrind.com staff alone 1 minute and they report dirt on Rihanna” and “somebodies gettin fired.” The headline was later changed to “Rihanna checks into a Beverly hotel Alone,” but Simmons didn’t fire anyone. “People work in other environments where it’s easy to play in the cheap seats,” he told us. “But we’ve become the biggest urban site, and we don’t have to do any dirt.”
