John Mayer popped in late to the Cinema Society/Laura Mercier after-party at the Soho Grand for the film “Conviction.” But when a guest asked Mayer if was making his rounds at other parties, our spy reports, he said he “doesn’t do events anymore,” adding the bashes were “too ‘Gossip Girl.’ ” Mayer joined Courtney Love, Paul Haggis, Gerard Butler, Hilary Swank and Betty Anne Waters at the party. In the movie, Swank plays Waters, a school dropout who studies law to get her brother out of jail. Swank and Waters drove up the New England coast and talked for 14 hours. “By the time I was done, I felt like I had years of therapy,” said Waters.
