LA Lakers Shannon Brown engaged to R&B singer Monica: report

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Shannon Brown became engaged to “The Boy Is Mine” singer Monica over the weekend, Us Weekly reported Monday.

The pair have only dated a few months. They met this summer when Brown starred in the music video for Monica’s single “Love All Over Me.”

The Grammy Award winner flashed a large rose-cut engagement ring in a photo distributed via Twitter, and in a posting on the microblogging site she addressed naysayers who might consider their relationship too rushed.

“We realize people will have their opinions,” Monica tweeted. “That’s the way of the world. But we know who we are & who’s we are.”

Monica, whose full name is Monica Denise Arnold, has a history of heartbreaks. She was previously engaged to rapper C-Murder — who is currently on trial for murdering a teenage fan, and she witnessed the suicide of another boyfriend, who shot himself in front of her in 2000.

Arnold, 29, has two children with former boyfriend rapper Rodney “Rocko” Hill — they pair were engaged until she broke off their relationship earlier in 2010.

Brown, who agreed to a two-year, $4.6 million contract with the Lakers in August, was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the 2006 NBA Draft. His brief pro career has seen stints with Chicago, Charlotte and L.A., where he has won two NBA Championships.
