The story of former fugitive billionaire oil trader Marc Rich is heading to Hollywood, Page Six has learned. Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Ron Howard have picked up rights to the book “The King of Oil: The Secret Lives of Marc Rich” to turn it into a movie. In the 2009 book, Rich gave an account to Swiss journalist Daniel Ammann of his oil trading from the 1970s to the ’90s and his business ties to Iran, South Africa and Cuba. In 1983, Rich was indicted by the US on charges of tax evasion and illegal oil trading with Iran. He was in Switzerland at the time and remained there, becoming a fugitive before he was controversially pardoned by Bill Clinton on the last day of his presidency. Rich was wed to New York society queen Denise Rich for 30 years until 1996. A rep for Imagine said they were “very close” to a deal to make a film focusing on Marc’s early career, when he revolutionized commodities trading.
