While Jay-Z and Kanye West put up a united front at the VMAs, tension between Jay and Lil Wayne was palpable after both apparently dissed each other on their respective new albums. Spies at the VMAs noted that the two hip-hop titans never spoke to each other and were separated by security guards during the awards show. They also noted that Jay left right after wife Beyoncé’s performance, while West stayed to see Wayne’s performance. A line from Jay’s song, “H.A.M.,” sparked rumors of a beef: “Really you got baby money,” which observers believed referenced Wayne and Cash Money Records. Wayne fired back: “Talk about baby money, I got your baby money/Kidnap your [bleep], get that how much you love your lady money,” on his “It’s Good,” apparently referring to Jay and Beyoncé. A rep for Wayne insisted, “Wayne doesn’t have a beef [with] any artist. That’s not his character. All he concerns himself with is his own music and pleasing his own fans.” Jay’s rep didn’t respond.
