Usher threw a birthday party for friend and songwriter Rico Love during Art Basel in Miami over the weekend. But he wasn’t going to be asked about his custody battle with ex-wife Tameka Foster. Spies tell us that on orders of his management, Usher was whisked inside by security to avoid any questions from the media about Foster, who is demanding he undergo drug testing. Usher, along with Mary J. Blige and restaurateur David Manero, hosted a 29th-birthday dinner party for producer-songwriter Love at the South Beach Italian hot spot Vic & Angelo’s on Friday. But Usher had a surprise up his sleeve. Standing on a white leather banquette, he asked for the music to be stopped and then said of Love, “What do you buy or give someone that can buy or give himself anything? . . . So, I wanted to be the first person to present him with something out of the ordinary.” Usher reached into a black leather bag and handed over his Grammy Award for his song “There Goes My Baby,” which was written and co-produced by Love. Those joining the party included Gabrielle Union, Chris Bosh and Juwan Howard.
