Jeffrey Deitch’s LA art upheaval

Jeffrey Deitch might be heading back to New York soon. Los Angeles’ Museum of Contemporary Art shockingly named the Manhattan gallery owner its director three years ago. There’s since been controversy over graffiti, naked performance artists and a show curated by James Franco. After a beloved curator was axed last year, four artists led by Ed Ruscha quit MoCA’s board. Yesterday the rival Los Angeles County Museum of Art unveiled a plan to acquire MoCA. Sources tell The Post’s Richard Johnson that Deitch would be the odd-man out. LACMA chief Michael Govan would run the merged museums. Deitch is said to have a golden parachute that would come from $30 million that Eli Broad gave to MoCA.
