Police swarm Wolf Blitzer’s house after ‘swatting’ prank

Wolf Blizter is the latest celebrity to fall victim to a dangerous prank called “swatting.”

The Washington Post reports that police swarmed the CNN host’s home Saturday in response to a false emergency call that someone had been shot in Blitzer’s Bethesda, Md. residence.

They were quickly able to determine that the report was made up – Blitzer was, in fact, out of town.

Police are treating the incident as another case of “swatting” in which authorities respond to a made up distress call. Several celebrities, including Ashton Kutcher, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and Ryan Seacrest have been targeted by pranksters.

In March, a 12-year-old boy was charged with swatting Bieber and Kutcher in separate incidents.

Police have appealed to members of the public to stop the pranks. “If somebody’s shot, we believe they’re dead or could be dead, we have to get there fast,” Montgomery Police Capt. Paul Starks said to the Washington Post.

“People are responding with lights and sirens, so there’s the potential for danger there.”

He added, “You’re diverting resources that might otherwise…go elsewhere to respond and resolve an actual emergency.”
