Mariel Hemingway is battling the curse of suicide in her family. She has a new doc directed by Barbara Kopple called “Running From Crazy,” which is on the festival circuit and will premiere on OWN next year. It deals with the seven suicides in her family, including those of her grandfather Ernest Hemingway and her sister Margaux. “I was so fearful of the future because I was so scared of my past,” Mariel tells the new Interview. “It took me a really long time to separate myself from it. I always thought, ‘Oh [bleep], now it’s my turn. I’m going to get sick, I don’t know what’s going to happen.’ ” To combat this, she became “very adamant about my lifestyle,” focusing on health and wellness.
