Joaquin Phoenix makes rare public appearance

Reclusive  Joaquin Phoenix made a rare appearance at the Lunchbox Fund’s Fall Fête on Wednesday at Buddakan.

“I came in from LA on Saturday, and I’m still messed up,” he said before asking, “What day is it?”

A quick-thinking rep for Phoenix, whose movie “Her” will close the New York Film Festival, dismissed his disorientation as “common jet lag.”

Meanwhile, Liv Tyler was in a good spirits, laughing as Moët was spilled on her arm while shaking hands with another guest.

“Next time, let’s just wave,” she said.

Also there were Maggie Gyllenhaal, David Blaine, Salman Rushdie and R.E.M.’s Mike Mills, who bought Chuck Close’s photo of Topaz Page-Green for $72,000 during the auction.
